Books
Joint authorship: Cover and title page contains your name "and Robert Mims." Depending on the degree of research and original writing on my part, cooperation with supporting data, illustrations and subsequent revisions, such projects range in cost from $5,000 to $8,500. In all cases, non-refundable payment will be half up front, the remainder due upon completion.
Copyright will be held jointly. Profit-sharing is an additional option, as negotiated, above the stated fees. In all cases, books also will include a brief acknowledgement of MimsMedia.com within the initial pages.
Collaborative authorship: Same as above, with the exception that the cover and title page contains your name "with Robert Mims."
Ghostwritten: The cover and title page contain your name only. All other conditions above apply. Cost: $7,500-$10,000, negotiated on basis of original work, research, etc., required.
Magazine articles, Web content
Negotiable, but generally the rates established by publications involved for freelance work.
Prices can include text and original photography, as applicable.
Straight editing
Tightening, rewriting, copyediting. Based on the degree of work involved, the cost ranges from $50 to $75 per hour. Set "piecework" fees also can be negotiated for such straightforward work as publicity or news releases.
